Just a quick report on a much discussesd subject. I started with two 12v 20W panels connected through a charge controller. These weren't sufficient to keep an original key fob receiver from draining my battery in under 5 days. Especially in the Scottish 'summer'.

I'd set up saved search on ebay for the part number of the 3rd generation of the key fob receiver. Eventually, one came up for a not too bad price compared with new. Item purchased and fitted.

Solar and the new receiver now working well together......

2 boards inside at right-angles to each other? f so, solar probably no-longer required. Never used anything on mine.

I know but belt and braces. If I leave them in it means I haven't got to find anywhere else to keep them. I may get a green respray and plug into the national grid. The susidies aren't what they were though.

Feed-in-tariff? Looked at that but got scared off when the goverment tried (and in the end sucessfully) reduced the rates. 15 years to break even now raised to over 20 years, albeit I like the idea of being green and not giving anymore than I have to to the oil companies.

I had to use a jump pack yesterday....too many short journeys recently and not enough sunshine.

Yes, doesn't help. Nights are getting colder too. Higher alternator set-point might help. My other car never has any issues and it has more electrics than the Rangie and is used less. Rangie is having a booster charge this evening as preventative maintenance.
