That looks well tidy! I like that a lot!

One thing, you have done the back flaps up slightly wrong, in that ^^^ photo the strap that you have put over the panel sewn on the side, actually goes inside this panel and out to the buckle, stops it flapping in the wind then!

Ahh yes! I was wondering about that.

Fixed thanks.

One thing that is a pain in the arse is that whenever I want to get into the back, it takes forever to loose the knots and then re-do them again.

I am thinking that after it gets rained on a few times and shrinks to shape then I am going to cut the ropes to size and add some kinda hook thingys to the ends of the rope.

Any other ideas on how to make that activity faster?

bungee cord

bungee cord

+1 on the bungee cord, i used 6mm, i initially used 8mm but it was a bit fat and the canvas got bunched up in random places.

I have tied strategic knots and loops in my bungee cord so that i can just do up one end, tension it as i go and then pull it tight and slip the loop of the bit next to the tailgate.

For the flap at the back i tied a loop in the end of the bungee with a suitable sized washer tied into the loop that slips over the metal hook hidden in the canvas flap, cant be arsed with knots etc

Only area where the jury is still out is the cord that runs above the rear window, i am unsure whether i like that as a bungee or preferred it as a piece of rope.....

Hi Flat,

I was looking at your other pictures of your Landy and you have one that shows her topless. You have the seatbelt bar mounted. I have the same bar to mount but have a question.

The sticks for the soft-top have horizontal pieces that run from the front hoop to the rear hoop. But with the seatbelt bar installed this horizontal bar cannot be installed because the seatbelt bar is in the way.
So How do you install the horizontal stick?
In your picture it looks like you have a piece joining the front loop to the seatbelt bar. Is this something that you made?

Thanks.

The hood sticks are slightly different if you have an MOD type roll hoop. The main front-to-rear horizontal bar is shorter, bolting to a tab on the back of the roll hoop. On the front of the roll hoop, there is another tab that has a short length of horizontal tube that runs to the forward hoodstick.

Sorry if this is a bad description, hopefully the pictures will help.

Thats it!

Where can I find these different size sticks?

exactly what he said, its a shorter bar, you dont need to struggle to find them, you could make them out of a piece of flat metal bar drilled appropriately for your car. neither of mine were fitted when i got my truck they were just swinging all around lol

Great, I think if I cut the existing horizontal sticks, the piece that I cut off can be made to fit the small piece. I guess I would just have to flatten the ends and drill holes for the bolts.
Now I gotta find a metal hole cutter to cut holes for the bar to fit through the top of the tub.

And I thought I was done..............

I'm not sure if you can buy them new, but Exmoor Trim may be worth a call.

Considering you've already got new sticks and your location, you might be better modifying your current ones though, then touch up the damage to the galv with some zinc paint like galvafroid.

A holesaw tends to jump around a lot when you cut the holes in the cappings because the pilot drill doesn't have any metal to centralise on. The other option is to drill lots of small holes in the shape of a circle, then cut between them with a hacksaw before neatening with a round file.
