im looking to get a socket set (i cant borrow my old mans all the time he moans when left in a mess) any ideas guys there seams to be loads about but i want something thats going to do the job and last:D

Halfrauds Pro range int bad fer the money.

Especially if you get them during their frequent 1/2 price offers

I agree I have a set and they are good for the money. Unless you have snap on money then I would say they are next best thing. The mrs got me my set for Xmas. I was shocked but was very impressed. Normally a bottle of lynx and some Radom thing.
:clap2:

yeah looked at their range seems alright, its that some sets are are a lot money for not a lot pieces

Whilst it may not last forever, I've got one of the Halfords cheapo socket sets

Halfords | Phaze 50 Piece Socket Set

It stands up to plenty of abuse and it's so cheap it doesn't matter if you lose one of the sockets!

I'm on my second one in 5 years - I keep one in the Land Rover and one in the garage - I 'accidentally' jumped on the oldest one in a fit of rage trying to change ARB bushes on my old car!!

I'd like a nice quality socket set at some point but I'm quite careless with my tools...

Halfords professional, they have a no quibble warranty aswell

Get during a half price event, also pick up their ratchet spanners to - they are ace!

I can recommend Teng Tools, I have a couple of sets and like Halfrauds have a lifetime warranty and I have had pieces replaced.

That said I also have a splendid Halfrauds Vortex set too, these are great as the ratches attaches to the outside of the socket allowing long studs to pass through unencumberred.

At the end of the day, qualitye tools like Halfords Pro, Gedore, snap-on, Teng etc will last and rarely fail on you, especially for Land Rover mechanics.

plenty of food for thought guys thanks i will pop into halfords and have a look n see whats in stock as their web site is giving me grief at the mo

yeah i looked at that one and the bigger one but didnt think it was big enough in sized sockets if that makes sence

It's had every size I've needed so far. Definitely enough for a 300tdi engine rebuild, including removal, refitting etc.

Oh and even a perfectly sized socket for clutch alignment :)

All my socket sets are by draper expert. Never had an issue an at times I have used them on work vehicles and they still perform. Everything I've thrown at them or have thrown them at when I,m in a mood they have survived. Sometimes get deals on the fleabay if you know what to look for.

halfords are on a half price sale until the 4th of june at the mo so will go for one theirs i think ,no advertising ment

I bought a set from Lidl last year and I've been very impressed with it

So far it's had everything I've ever needed in it

Yup ,me the same, but I have had mine about 5 yrs-seems unbreakeable on both my 300 tdi and TD5 and most are hex sockets as well
