So what should I do first?

Hi All

I am picking up a 1986 RRC Vogue later this month.:D

Welding to sills has already been done and it has a full MoT. The first thing I will do is have a very good look underneath and if it is sound, will get it Waxoyled.

There are a few rust bubbles to the tailgate and rear quarter panels. What is the best way of dealing with this since I intend to have this car for a long time, along with my LR S2A.

Apart from counting down the days, I would like your expert opinions on what I should do first.

:)

Rub 'n paint usually has a finite life, depending of course on how good the 'prep' is. Your best bet may be to replace in which case there has been a flurry of top tailgates on Ebay lately or you could go the alloy replacement route, but be aware that you get what you pay for. Replacement bottom tailgates have long since disappeared from the market (M&M 4x4 used to do GRP ones but I don't think they do now) rear quarter panels however are available in both steel & GRP. Also never slam shut the top tailgate, always press both the bottom corners firmly till the catches click. Waxoyling is certainly a good move for these rust queens, a professional job is the most effective but pricey - 2 years ago it cost me £560 inc vat.

Thank you for your help and welcomes. I will post photos in the Introductions thread when I have picked up the car. Not long to wait now.

Managed to get the parcel shelf for £5 at Billing today that just needed a good clean.

Also saw one of the original "In Vogue" picnic hampers for sale there - £250 - so if you just have to have one....

I replaced the rear quarter on my '92 classic , which involved removing the rear wing to get to some of the nuts and bolts . Some pop rivets have to be drilled out on the inner edge of the quarter panel , and the replacement re-rivetted. I managed to let the wing rest on the floor with the petrol filler still attached , whilst I swapped the quarter panels over.
