so the starter motor just clicks????

I'd put the transfer box into neutral; being an auto, could it be stuck in gear?!

Transfet box is in neutral but still no joy. Am I rite in thinking if the engine was seized it wouldn't turn over at all?

No it may turn a small amount, try turning it a full revolution and see if it will go round, if its ok take the starter out and just connect it to a battery and see if it works, if it does its just not getting enough voltage it could be as simple as a dodgy connection on to the starter itself, where are you located maybe someone near can have a look ?

Ive had the starter motor off and had the jump leads on it and seemed ok but it could it just be a weak starter? Ive also had the jump leads direct onto it when it was on the car.... it turns ovet just very slowly so could it still be a dodgy startet motor ( its also turned over more than 1 full revolution) im in sheffield if anyone is in sheffield and fancies a brew snd biscuits tomorrow would be great

Remove the earth strap from the battery to the chassis (or body i think its chassis) and clean up the surfaces, refit. Remove the strap that goes from the starter to the chassis (probably only chassis end is required) and clean surfaces and refit.

Its not doing any of the above its just turning over very slowly

Aftet 6 hours of head scratching its alive!!! Turns out it was a seized alternator! Thanks for all the help lads

I know tell me about it! I only noticed because a friend tried starting it and by off chance I was looking at the alternator! The strain on the belt was causing stress on the starter motor causing it to turn ovee very slowly
