I've been looking for the "right" one for some time now,
I wanted a ninety V8 CSW as tidy & original as I could find

One came up on flebay that ticked all the boxes, cut a long story short I bought from a very helpful seller but unseen as it was 300 miles away
I had it collected by a pal of mine (as a back load at a good price)
Got it back home and after a quick drive it's very apparent the gearbox is knackered, (to be fair to all, it's that solid and well under the budget i was looking to spend so I'm not at all bothered by this)

So first on the list is to sort the gearbox as it sound like a rally car with a straight cut box!! (Except in 4th which is super quiet)
Im thinking keep with the LT85 to keep it original??

Next I think will be some rust proofing, what do people recommend? A good steam clean & waxoil? Or splash out and use "before & after" or the like?

I'm also thinking about painting the wheels, grill and headlamp surrounds silver, does any one know if these would have been originally white?

Anyone's thoughts of what they would do with it will be greatly welcomed!

Leave it and paint the bumper white to match:)

I have access to a steam cleaner, compressor and a large fork lift. So I think I'll give the rust proofing a go myself!

Well 1hr last night and 2 tonight and I've got one blue thumb nail and the seat boxes & floor pans out, props off, speedo cable & breathers off!

The box is all alloy so I'm thinking LT85???
Next question as I've come this far would you split the transfer & take out the top (I can borrow an engine crane but it means a 30min each way drive in the morning
Or raise the vehicle and take them out from the bottom??

That's an 85, well done! You got the better box

Personally I'd split them and remove by hand without a hoist, not about 60kg each, done that before with the R380

Thanks, I've got an extra pair of hands tomorrow so will try without the hoist first,

pop the crossmember out whilst your at it.... paint n copperslip the hidden mounting face to death.... so many good chassis end up holed in this area and its a simple quick job

cheers steve

Thanks Steve, I'll do that!

Any other jobs, things to replace while it's apart, any one can recommend?

I'd agree with doc. I'm 10st wet through and I can move a gearbox or transfer box about on my own.
Did my back in last time I tried to move a r380 and trans box on my own

It's out!
Neither of them too heavy on there own, just bloody awkward!

As you can see I took the cross member out too, & sure enough there is a rust hole about the size of a two pound coin, thanks eebadger!
I'm not sure what can be done about it??
If I weld a patch I'll never get the cross member back in!
