I am thinking of fitting a safari snorkel to our 110. Mostly for cosmetic reasons. I like the forward facing air inlet BUT just a bit concerned about rain getting into the filter
Anybody any experience they could share would be useful
 
Frankly speaking Defender wings has air vents to filter box but one is capped off. If the rain got in on petrol carburettor it's done well. Snorkel being higher and can be turned normally opposed to the weather. Such as sand storm. Rain has to be torrential head on to even get drawn in. There are some nice snorkel kits on the market you could email the company for better advice on.
 
If you are worried about rain getting in then maybe you should consider a proper snorkel top like defender should be fitted with :p

On a more serious note I would not worry about water getting in, any that does would be minimal, the air box should have a duck bill drain at the bottom of it, and if it is anything like my tdi then oil is far more of an issue than water although it does have the benefit or repelling all the water so it doesn't get the filter damp!

Mine has been like this since fitting in 2003, no issues.
This is the position for when in excessively dusty or wet conditions, put it like that the day it was fitted and never changed it.
Prefer it that way.

Less wind resistance will make the world of difference on a defender:D
Depends on the speed. Makes little difference under 60 mph, but much more at 70+.
The later Defenders are much quicker than the old Tdis.
I also think it tends to be cumulative. With a roof rack, spot lights, a lift kit and a snorkel, it probably knocks off a few mpg at motorway speeds.

Mine does 70 drum roll Down a hill!

To be fair it will do 70, but the noise in the cabin makes the radio pointless.
