been putting the snorkel off for some time,but today was deciding factor,was out playing trunged through the water usually get away with it,but must have been abit deeper today coz took a glug in and stalled in middle:eek:,great fun sat there while it filled up to seat height then my mate pulled me out,

was lucky though got it started after a couple of minutes crancking:) wasnt expecting it to start without blowing a piston(thank ferk)it started was a bit rough for a couple of mins but seems fine now,well apart from a wet carpet..:rolleyes:

is there anything to check tomorow that may have water ingresed into it..:doh:
lesson learnt and snorkel will be getting ordered tommorow..
 
If you had wading plugs fitted, which I doubt then remove them. I would also change the axle oils as water may have got in through the breathers. I learnt the same way as you. :D

no wading plugs fitted,going to change all fluids during week was on my to do list anyway.
did you take the carpets out to dry them or just leave them in..would just take them out and bin them,but i use the disco for my main driver work and pleasure,so would be a tad noisy i think
 
I left them in to dry, I put a fan heater in the foot wells over night for a couple of days with the window cracked open, they dried ok, I probably should have taken them out but couldn't be bothered. :D
 
i might whip them out tommorow,i could be doing with checking the floor anyway,mot due next month...was funny though my lad climbed out and sat on roof ,thought we were going down...kids can't take them anywhere..ha
 
defo take the carpets out mate, ideally leave them out FOREVER!

or, put the carpets back in but leave the sound deadening layer out, its that that soakes up all the water and rots your floor.

how much more noisy is it with carpets out if it aint too bad i will leave them out,goin into b&q for snorkel parts tommorow as money is tight..any ideas as where to get a stainless pipe for up side of screen behind the wing stuff is unseen so will source some hard wearing flexi or something for in there,but would like something abit more attractive where seen,also what size is hole in airbox 300tdi..
any info welcolme have done a search most people have used downpipe which looks ok,but the way my luck goes i'd smash it straight off..lol
also is there a certain size it has to be for airflow,or is it just ease of fitting from airbox hole backwards..

Go to Southdown.co.uk and find the bargain basement.

You can buy snorkel parts there, including the stainless tube, pre-bent for the perfect fit, £37.50

You'll make a quality snorkel for 50-60 quid with that :)

Regards noise, not sure, but it's much noisier when the floor rusts through!

The sound matting is very thick in places so it probably stops a lot of noise, but you'd have to try it mate.

Trust me if you're going deep enough for a snorkel then you definitely need the carpets out. Don't know about you but my disco is like Swiss cheese for leaks! :D
 
Went through just over 4ft of water in my 200tdi 2 weekends ago and got the footwells soaked (got snorkel and extended breathers/wading plugs fitted). I've been trying to dry them out with a hairdryer with not much success.

Is it easy enough to get the carpets and soundmatting out ?

yes..

the plastic bits over the sills come out easily as they are hold by screws....

then its a stanley knife on the carpet as its tucked under the seat bases and under the centre dash console.

no ammount of heating will ever dry the carpet on a disco, ok, it might dry the carpet, but not the soundproofing foam.. which then rots your footwells
 
Or you can take the seats out, only 4 bolts, but it's up to you.

Sill trims first then start lifting it up, trimming back with a blade when it is snagged somewhere.

Then burn them to stop you putting them back in :D
 
carpet out just gave it a good old tug came out no probs...well i did rip it in a few places lol,the sound deadining weighed a ton,full of water no way it would of dried,was a bit worried taking out the boot matting incase there was no floor..but perfect nice and shinny boot floor..a bonus..going for a 120 mile trip tommorow so i will see how loud it is without it,just fitted my rubber mat in boot that will do for now..
elec driver window now ferked sounds like its fell off runners and central lockin not working just reopens but i think its something to do with window mechanism so will get door card off tomoz and have a look..

I am not knocking people who do do it but i'm really not sure why they do.......what drives you to want to drive thought it guy's?

I just don't think i could cope with drowning my car......god knows i have enough trouble with the water system on all of the petrol engines i've had including the latest debarcle.....but i do like the fact that with both the tdi models you can have a good clean under the bonnet when you need to.....

I love wading in my Disco, haven't done it much on the road (mostly pay and play sites). Good to know how much deeper i can go in mine compaired to an X5. :lol:
