snorkel installation

I did the same. Removed the silly land rover air intake and welded some steel hose onto my mushroom top snorkel and connected air intake hose directly to the snorkel. Totally air tight now. Air filter box sealed and even the water dump valve is sealed (they always leak). and when changing the air filter I use electrical tape to seal the box again. The hoses crush when covering the air intake but doesn't stall. You can hear very hard sucking from the engine but can't see (hear) where it's coming from but doesn't stall.

The breather hose sucks air in from the rocker cover too and I guess the engine would suck in air via the oil filler cap.
 
hey guys here is me installed snorkel and with plenty of silicon, nearly use 300ml! and the mantec wheel carrier on the back which I have just installed also, after restoring it from the scrap yard!

only negative thing is that the blood bolts are rusting already!

getting bouyant on the Fosse way. only siliconed the wing bits, the rest is original pipework. no problems apart from the landy rocking around looking for traction :eek:

Where bouts down the fosse way is that?? i often go down the bit near cirencester. Had water coming in through my drivers window the ford was so deep there a few weeks bak :D

that one is at brookend near luckington used to live close to there,brother in law is a mechanic and that ford keeps him pretty busy at certain times like when the main road was closed at sherston and peeps followed their sat navs to divert:doh:
 
I tried the bag trick and it sucked the bag tight around it but the motor carried on ticking over like normal. I think I might take all my pipe joints apart and silicone everything :rolleyes:

no its usually only about 2ft deep and is just a small river that runs accross the track but due to heavy rain the river had swolen and it had swolen... a LOT. wher bouts are your pictures in relation to cirencester?
 
hey redhand what is the drain valve? where it is located? is that the flywheel plug? heard about that in the haynes manual for when you go offroading. but not sure where that is :-( can you show me via pictures?

Think he means the little rubber wotsit on your air filter casing (on the cover you remove to change the filter!)... blocked my mates up cos his was damaged and a new one is £20! :eek:
 
I've had another go at my 200 tdi 90 snorkel, I've put a coke bottle lid into the drain thingy and siliconed it in too, I've taken the pipes off the filter and blocking the pipe to the inlet to the turbo stalls the motor, once connected back to the air filter it collapses the pipe but the motor doesn't stall so it must be draging some air in round the seal on the filter housing, I siliconed the pipes to the filter and redid the snorkel to body connection. When I pace a bag over now it still doesn't stall so I am wondering if I am leeking air in on the plastic piece on the wing, not the joint as that is well sealed, is there another drain thingy on that too? How can I remove that to check for splits etc, does that mean removing the heater matrix? I'm probably going overboard as I'm not really expecting to go scuba diving in it, but I do want it to be right!
 
I noticed on my airfilter there is a small metal pole with a thred on end. I dont have anything on the end of this, but noticed one of the guys on here did. What does this mean? it looked like a plastic cap or something

someone on here also said if dont stall, prob means little air getting in, but water bigger than air, so not to worry?
 
If it's the thread that pokes through the filter at the front then mine has a plastic knob on to tighten the to halfs of the filter together
