Not this kind of snatch;

...this kind of snatch;

They seem to go for very cheap prices, I can only assume it's because they are high milage, and been battered (same as any ex mod vehicle). But they have been serviced well, and are essentially a 110 but with more stuff!

I am military, so know that you need a cat C license to drive a snatch, and that they are a different beast, but having never driven or owned one, can somebody explain what I would need to do or change to one of these babys to convert it back to a normal 110? (Presumably it's just unbolting all the armour and heavy stuff???)

these can be a really good buy but a thorough inspection is needed!
-they arent as well maintained as everyone thinks!

ref convirting it back to a normal 110, this is quite easy though depends how original you want to go -the whole rear tub is a little different -rear doors are bifolding + has propper moulded seat units in the back (these are pump! -really uncomfortable!)

they dont tend to leave the MOD with any usefull armour atached but some rare landrover bling might still be there....

eg
barracuda cam
long range tank
the extra jate recovery points on top of the bumber,
air con unit in the side stowage area,
riot cage for front windscreen
wire cutter....

a good buy for a project!
+salisbury axles are awsome ;)

Most of the snatch land rovers being released at withams look like they havent been used for years. Most have probably been parked up in theatre then shipped back on a slow boat on the top deck in the salt water. They are complete piles of ****e. Thats why they start at £750. Ive been there and spoken to them about the snatches being released. If you want a project 110 then you're better off buying a standard 110 and starting from there. Also im ex military and have driven the snatch rovers years ago. I dont remember them having any extra armour than that they are being released with now and also dont remember people having to have c licence (although I have C+E anyway so maybe that why i dont remember a problem)

the snatch hasnt been officially used outside the wire for nearly 5 years since a guy died due to an IED -just cant armour a landy enough + still be able to drive it over the terrain without it rolling. there have been recent attempts but even these have been **** canned by the MOD since the jackall / huskeys come on the sceen.

unofficially, i know of plenty of drop offs due to lack of veh's available at the time.

stripped down, the ones iv seen havnt been too bad for being stood up a while, just depends how much you want to spend + the end result your lookin for ;)

Mitch. Unfortunatly we have lost a lot stronger vehicles to IEDs in recent years. Those vehicles were a lot stronger than any land rover could possibly be.

it doesnt matter what shape the hull is lads, those ****ers just put more + more explosive in untill they do the job.

the veh in the link is a huskey? awsome bit of kit -the cab is a fully sealed pod + everything around it, wheels, engine, tail, is designed to fall away in a blast -hopefully leaving the pod undamaged!

unfortunately i doubt we will ever see a landrover on the battlefield again.

The photo I sent was an Otokar Defender (land rover based) and is used by alot of military forces (though not the UK - tight bastids). It seems that the UK have yet to replace all of the less armoured Land Rovers yet. If the soldiers can put their life on the line for us, they deserve to know that when they step into and 'armoured' vehicle they are protected. Governement should stop giving benefits to illegal imigrants and give it to the lads who are out there doing the dangerous stuff.

lol with an outlook like that, i'd vote for you as prime minister!

TBH, i love/live/breathe landrovers but,with the advances in tech, there are just so many better platforms out there at the moment that, i dont want to get in anything L/R based -they just arent up to the job anymore -that includes the new WMIK.

Even the challengers aren't immune to ieds.

lol, they'd never take challengers to theatre!

the danish have a few tiger 2's out there - i saw 1 hit an ied + blow a HUGE chunk of armour off 4ft square x 1/2 ft thick!

as i say, we keep making bigger veh's + they just make bigger bombs!!

all in favour of nuking the place into glass, raise your hands!?:flame2:
:fighting:
