snapped timing belt?

Worth trying to get the engine 'rebuilder' to cough up for the repair (somewhere else) or threaten small claims as it appears he has charged for work he hasn't done?

Doubt that his attitude abserlutely stinks, when my brother (d90matt) took the 90 back for the oil leak at rear main he was shouting and got right up in his face, matty wouldent back down after a shouting match between them mattys girlfriend got out the car to calm the situation down! Still not willing to sort an oil leak 2 days after finishing the job!

With the 3 pushrods been slightly bent do you recon I could have got away with any other damage? Could the things that the pushrods sit on be damaged too? (Apologies for my pants description I not done this before)

I brought an engine with a snapped belt, it had only bent 3 pushrods but i swapped all 8 to be on the safe side, Mine struggled to start a little and ran lumpy but it just needed the valve clearances doing and its still running sweet now.
 
slip and strip?

that kit include the tensioner? i'd be changing that to be safe and check the sprockets are all ok and tight.
 
Think I have just saved myself from a nasty experience pulled the timing cover off today to replace the timing belt as a matter of course as I have just bought my 90 and when I timed the engine up to remove the belt I found the injection pump marks where well out but its all done now just need to put everything back now :D
 
Glad ya getting it sorted, but that belt wasnt changed, you were told it had been done, you paid up in good faith, the dealer is obviously a lying stealing skunky bull****ting robbing ####.
TBH dont feel bad about name and shame, if he was a good egg he would fix this no argument, the blokes a thieving git and puts shame on honest mechanics.
Name the ignorant git and protect members :)

That sounds encouraging, I only had 3 bent pushrods too soon its made me feel better thanks! :)

The belt snapping is just the icing on the cake, its all the ****e before that was really bad, especially shouting in my brothers face! But just now looking at the pics I'm 100% sure it can't of been changed I'm sure you agree?

The biggest **** take is my engine is on his web site! Which i only just noticed 10 mins ago while searching his company name to see if anyone else had named and shamed him. My god LOL!

you sure? seems cheap. some people sell kits with crappy parts but dayco belts. got a link?

plus, i don't think dayco make the pulleys, etc

Deffinately dayco timing belt for sure, theres actually 2 rollers and are in separate box,s from the timing belt tho (blue box,s) I can look tommorow but they looked good quality and all for £35 with gaskets included Im very happy with that!

Maybe britpart rollers with them been in blue packaging but for the cost im pleased and a very vast improvement to the ones currently on! Are dayco belts decent quality?

That's what I bought came with a dayco belt, tentioner ( in a white unmarked box ) oh and with B.P. gaskets aswell but I bought the crank sprocket off ebay in a blue box.

kit £24

crank sprocket £23 inc postage.

but all seam ok but only time will tell :)

dayco are fine, oem quality.

since you are new :)

britpart supply parts, some are utter crap, some are good. oem/genuine parts usually have the number ending in G. these are parts that are made by the same manufacturer landrover uses, but without the landrover sticker. so these are known good quality.

it's generally advised to avoid the cheaper britpart bits and bobs for anything important, like oil seals, waterpumps and all that.

i'd personally pick the oem (G) britpart one which is twice the price as the cheaper britpart item, as you will only be changing your belt once in a while and if it seizes then it'll result in what just happened to you ;)

fyi, i'd expect the oem britpart and oem bearmach to be the same, so pick the cheapest. allmakes and bearmach brand are generally regarded as having better quality control then britparts.

Well I phoned the garage this morning as we were both dealing with him simply because tom couldn't take any more time off work so I had to go up serval times to apparently collect the fixed landy to only be greeted with more problems and bad attitude
anyway asked him if belt was changed there was a long pause then a uncertain yes, told him it snapped and his reply was its out of warranty now so basically tough I said thaught you would say that. Trading standards will be contacted and many thanks!!!
What a joker now we think about it the bolts were seized stiff on the casing so guessing they not been undone in a long time not 5 months under 7 k ago!!!!
Well guess he's got away with it probably not the 1st or last time im guessing
 
Go to small claims court.
Warranty and merchantable quality are two different things.

He claimed the belt had been changed, but you have evidence to the contrary.
Bud the big question - do you have it in writing?
If you have proof that he said your engine had a new belt, then go for it.

Keep all your receipts and go to small claims court.
