Hi,

Im just swapping out my warped exhaust manifold (I know usual story on here) and I cant seem to get the 2 x snapped studs removed. Ive centre drilled them, tried using stud extractors, but wont move. Ive actually buchered them abit now :(

Does anyone have any further ideas? or know anyone in manchester that are mobile mechanic/stud remover?

Any help..... please :)

yeah, I looked it up and a lot of people say use a stud extractor, but it hasnt worked and think I had rubbish extractor as well, the studs are snapped below the recess so think it might have been hard to weld.... but thats just been taking, a diy mechanic ;) just dont know what to do :(

I would have got engine up to temp first and then used a left hand drill bit, they somtimes come out with drilling alone . I would'nt recomend useing cheap stud extractors coz if one breaks yeh realy knacked.

If there is no way they will come out you will have to drill them out and retap -Watch yeh depths !

Good luck

Try and drill bob on in the centre of the stud, make a sleeve if you have to. I would want to drill 6.8mm (pilot drill first) to re-tap 8mm as standard. If it all goes tit's up you will have no choice but to re-tap 10mm (8.8mm drill) but you will have to open/weaken the holes in the manifold. Just don't drill too deep and run the risk of going into a waterway or summet !!!!

The trick is getting yeh pilot drill smack bang in the centre of yeh stud otherwise it's going to go oval !

Was talking to a Swiss couple last summer that did North America -South America with a tuned 130 TD5 that kept popping manifold studs all the way down and they managed to get them changed in the middle of no where with nothing so there's hope for you yet !
