right people was driving my 1967 series 2A (300 Tdi conversion) home on tuesday giving it some going up a hill when i had an Ohh s**t moment and bang bang bang bang pulled over and opened the bonnet to see nothing obviously wrong nothing come off so not having any tools nursed it home with the noise still going off (hard to explain just a really load knocking) been busy so only got chance to look at it tonight and removed the rocker lid to find number four exhaust rocker (number 8 pushrod) flapping about pulled out the pushrod to find it considerably shorted than it should be
with a magnet removed to rest.

took off the rocker shaft and pulled the rest of the rods and found there are two types? i can only presume its snapped a belt in the past and replaced only four. there seem to be plenty of threads about snapped belts but never the pushrods its slightly bent but nothing compared to the ones shown on here.

so now to my question, will it be ok to presume its only the rod thats damaged nothing further inside the engine, will i be able to just change the rods or could it be something more important inside the engine ? it had always made a puffing sound from that cylinder even after redoing the clearances all the valve caps where in place (apart from 8)

any ideas welcomed Sam
