Snapped Aerial

Some idiot snapped off the wing mounted telescopic aerial on my Defender 2.2 TDCI :mad2:

Seen some replacements on Fleabay etc but how do you get the old one off !
Access looks to be a nightmare and the 'nut' on top of the wing looks like it needs a tool to get it off.

Anyone replaced one of these?

I realise I will have to pull through the cable to connect it back to the radio. Unless it's easier to solder a new connector on.

Will have to resort to the coat hanger in the meantime...

Any tips?

Probably ..... will have a look in the light ...... looked tricky to access.

No you're right, it is a nut on the top and you use a 2 pronged socket to remove.
I've got one but you're no where near me so that's out of the window.
But it shouldn't be too tight and a pair of pliers/grips will get it off.

If the aerial is broken then no harm in tapping the top nut around with a hammer and punch, just don't slip and scratch the paint!

Yes, that's exactly what I have.
To be honest they aren't tight so you shouldn't have a problem.
Sockets better for tightening them up so you don't mark it, but I'd just put a rag around it and be a bit careful.
But then it depends what sort of new aerial you're buying.

sometimes yes, sometimes no ...

I fitted an 'indoor' type to the windscreen but TBH, not really impressed with it

You need a sharper sound ...
