Snap-on Solus Pro - Any good for Disco 2 ?

Hey guys,

Im a little new around here so apologies for any daft questions in advance.

I have a hankering to equip myself with a diagnostic tool as I am currently experiencing a visitation from the three Amigos and would like to save the tribulations of forking out unnecessarily to various repair facilities when I have the time and inclination to do it myself.

So I have been trawling around and have spotted quite a few Snap-on Solus Pro tools on Ebay, complete with the 26 european manufacturers keys and up to date software. Question is are they any good for Landrover ??, I also own a Saab and a Mercedes so I would like to be able to work on more than one vehicle if possible and the Solus looked to be a better alrounder than say the Hawkeye or the Faultmate which seem to be purely aimed at Landrover.

I also read that the Hawkeye is quite limited when compared with the Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme for example, so I would also appreciate any experiences others may have had in that direction. My vehicle is a 1999 Discovery II Petrol V8 ES.

I dunno much about snap-on tools, what i can tell u for sure is that the D2-s are not OBDII compliant vehicles and they have a specific diagnostic protocol... the only one which is readable with generic scanner is the engine management(read/erase codes without programming capabilities)... for programming/coding and the other important and mostly problematic ECU's like BCU, SLABS and ACE u need a LR dedicated scanner. As i saw that Solus Pro is not a cheap toy so if u want to spend bigger money to cover all your cars search a second hand multi vehicle unlocked Dec Superscan II which in the Land Rover area is the Testbook T4's perfect clone.

I've read in another forum that the Solus doesn't speak Range Rover.

It will do basic engine and I think it's airbags but it won't do suspension or alarm settings on D2.

What version software is it running? Depending on the software is whether it'll do the rangie.

You are aware that software updates are summit like £600 a time I take it?

even with latest update the snap on solus wont do full range on l/rovers or range rovers

and yes ratty is about 500 - 600 quid a update

I think it's £850 for my modis.
