Best plan of all ... get a whole back axle off a Disco and throw the drum brakes in the bin.

Apart from anything else, the Landy will STOP better - MUCH better.

That's the plan for the future, buy a scrap disco and use engine boxes and axles to bring th old 110 up to date but I first want to get on the road with the V8 and have some fun.
Axle plan out the winda due to lack of finances, how can I afford an axle swap when I'm digging into my MOT money to buy adjusters? that's why I'm considering a bodge.

you are welcome to the ones off my old back axle landowner, they work fine and are just sitting there otherwise.
Ta mate, errr, could you drop em off tomorrow for us:D

My mate went to anglesey today as well , never mind thanks anyway.:)

can post them to you if u want.
Thanks Boydy but I've found that an axle set of adjusters are less than a tenner, was wondering how easy they are to fit.
I remember fitting Mini front adjusters when they were drum brakes all round and it dosent bring back happy memories. :)

Sooner I get this done the sooner I get on with the 205 and then we can have some fun........if I dont die in the meantime:D

Theres not that much difference between my 1987 110s brakes and my dads TD5 110s brakes when mines working properly.

Having said that i would far prefer discs, but i need a salisbury axle, so its not realy on the cards.

Was passing Craddocks today so I nipped in and got some new snail adjusters. The man behind the counter didn't even have to look at his puter, they were on the counter within 10 seconds, bloody brilliant.
Now there's a man who knows what he's doing. Got a boss for me sports steering wheel while I was there and had some money out of her indoors purse.:D

The new ones look nothing like me old ones and they are three times as thick so spose corrosion has taken its toll on them.
I'll get em on as soon as, and then I'll have some real brakes at last:)

Ah ... but he's got a DEFENDER disc brake back axle on his Defender.

I was saying to you to put a DISCOVERY back axle on yours.

The DISCOVERY disc brake back axle is quite different as regards BRAKING POWER. Believe me till you try it for yourself.

Even Defenders with disc brakes will stop a heap better with a Disco back axle, especially with a heavy trailer on.

CharlesY

.

Mine stopped just the same with or without 2 or three tons hanging on the back cause me trailer brakes are well serviced:p

All done. Things i have learnt;

1. Look at and remember the spring possitions befor you pull it to bits.

2. There is a front and back brake pad, they are not semetrical, get it right the first time! :(

Other than that its not a bad job, bit fidely but manageable.

What was the trouble with Mini front adjusters?

They screwed in and out. To change them (WHY?) just screw them right out towards the outside of the car after knocking out the adjuster wedges.

If they were rusted solid whose fault was that anyway?

All these things should be slobbered in copper grease at every opportunity.

Same with Landy snail-cam adjusters.

sorry, I meant that fitting them wasn't easy as they had to be pressed in (or mine did) You are thinking of the rears which screwed through into the drum to remove and there were three different lengths of wedges depending on the year ( maybe one was Metro) . They wouldn't screw out unless the metal bracing strip had rusted off the back of the drum IIR.
Yes , I agree with the old copper grease but if the previous owner never bothered then the adjusters usually siezed.
Got me new 110 ones now and only need to sus out what goes where, maybe all will be revealed when I knock the old ones out.:)
