Hi all
So my auto freelander still smokes like a train when I pull away
Badly
Changed all hoses and turbo. Breather valve etc etc
Cleaned inter cooler
New turbo
And still exactly the same
Not good.
Runs perfectly and new injectors
Getting too expensive to continue which is a shame
Beginning to think maybe the automatic box is sending too much fuel signals to e c u ??
Just a thought.
Any ideas guys ?
Thanks

Smoke under acceleration isn't necessarily a fault. The EDC applies more fuel, to get the vehicle moving, more fuel than the same vehicle with a manual transmission.
My TD4 SE auto smoked on acceleration, which I considered normal, and it definitely didn't effect the MOT.

If it's just from cold & evaporates quickly then it's probably just condensation 'smoke' the same as a gas central heating boiler flue & certainly worse when the outside temperature is lower.

Get diagnostics on it, and check all the sensors. Even in this cold weather it shouldn't smoke once it's warmed up.

It is bad. Really bad.
Going to re investigate turbo but seriously thinking engine swap for another
How bad is that job please!!

Might be worth putting an EGR delete on it and see if that fixes the problem. Clean out the inlet manifold which will likely be quite constricted if it hasn't been cleaned.

Give the engine its best chance of breathing properly and see what happens.

Did you by any chance have a look in the cylinders when the injectors were removed (one of those USB camera jobbies)? Dunno if you can see through to the cylinder from the injector port or whether its just a swirl type chamber. There have been some seriously damaged TD4 cylinders on here - gunked up and burnt to pieces by leaking injectors I believe.

I drive an L Series, I get some serious black smoke from mine when I give it some beans. TD4 should be much cleaner.

When turbo failed on my sons td4 all the plastic pipes were full of oil. Also the exhaust. Stripped & cleaned everything but still got smoky exhaust. Took 40 miles of motorway to eventually clear it.

Run it with intercooler disconnected to see where oil actually is getting in. It won’t drive properly but check each stage from turbo to inlet.
