I was driving into work this morning with the heater on, 20mins into the trip smoke started to poor out of the dash. I turned the heating off and dropped the window for it to clear, which it did. i have not tried the heater again but i made it to work ok. I keep going out to check and everything seams ok.

Has anyone got any ideas of what it could be?

I'm sure it was smoke, i wasn't sure if it could be wiring. But its strange that it went away when i turned the heating off. Could it be something to do with the heater intake as the guy i bought it off modded a raised intake.

dont understand what u mean??
the air intake for the cabin is on the left front fender. did you turn off the heater and the fan?

The guy's sealed that vent and installed a section of 'drain' pipe to raise the intake.

I turned of both the fan on the left side and turned the hot to cold on the right.

hmmm...ok gotcha.
the only thing that can smoke is the fan motor. yer heater will never get hot enough to make anything smoke. with the mods, does yer fan still blow ok? if its not getting enough air, could overrun and run hot.

Any breather pipes come undone? If your loosing compression and a breather has disconnected your cab will fill up. That doesn't explain why it stopped when you turned the heater off though

The main pipe connected to the snorkle / side vent ais the air intake, but yes you will sometimes also find a breather pipe (which has a different purpose) connected to the snorkle as well as the air intake pipe. You need to check under the bonnet where the breather pipe is connected to the top of the egine (look for a thinner tube than the air intake). They usually attach to the rocker cover (highest part of your engine where the oil filler cap is) or somewhere within that region. If it has come off, an oily mist will be coming through and into your cab! Just look for a loose or disconnected pipe. You could always trace the breather pipe from your snorkle to where it fastens onto the engine.

smoke or steam....is the first Q. smoke you choke,,,,steam you....well you just end up with soft supple skin...

Before i set off home last night, i lifted the bonnet to find the pipe connecting the snorkel disconnected. I reconnected and drove home with no problems. I've bought a Mud console, so whilst i'm at it i'll remove the dash and double check the wiring just in case.

It was the thick one, i check the others and everything seemed ok.

I've now got it booked in on monday at the auto electrics guy to tidy up some cables and check everything out.

extensive rewire was the verdict, i got a call from the garage at dinner. He had removed the dash and other panels and some of the wiring has shorted and not blown the fuse and melted the wire!!!!!!
