i was taking my 4.0lt 1998 range rover to a independent specialist to get the eas sorted as it had sunk to the floor, eas fault appeared and all the lights on the height indicator were lit.
i managed to cover a mile, when i noticed smoke coming out of the engine bay.
i opened the bonnet and saw it was coming from just below the left rocker gasket (looking from the front)
would this be related to the eas or has anyone had a similar problem.
help

i did get recovery by the aa to the garage but he can't look at it till monday

I had the same problem, turned out to be the breathing hoses from the rocker covers. There are two of them, and mine where collapsed and breaking apart and oil where soilling out of the holes. I bought some standard petrol line hoses and cut them myself.

I had same trouble, frightened the life out of me as i was thinking under bonnet fire! loads of smoke from under the drivers side corner of bonnet and it smelt of burning paper, or something like that but definitely a burning smell.
i was surprised to see a heater hose spraying coolant onto exhaust manifold, the anti freeze in it made it smell like paper or something burning...amazing, thats all it was...

i think i have the same thing, living in hope while i wait for a guru here to comment on my pics, i was dreading blown head gasket but am getting a little more hopeful now i've read this! cheers!
