It's a Disco 2, 2004 vintage TD5. There's a small leak of diesel - I think from the offside sort of middle of the engine compartment. I've also got poor performance from the engine until the turbo kicking in. It's not so noticable on the level, but with a bit of a load on or uphill the torque is very poor.

Before I go and investigate, my immediate thoughts were that it'll be the fuel pressure regulator.

Is the power problem likely due to a leaking FPR, or do I have two problems?

Or could it be something else altogether?

Replace the FPR then see if the problem persists... cos it could be related if the regulator's diaphragm is cracked... and in this case the repair kit will not help at all

If sierrafery's solution doesn't work, check your turbo hoses for de-lamination.
Failing that, it may be the fuel pump.
I had no problem when I had a leaky FPR, it was just a pig to change.

Thanks. Yes it makes sense to do the FPR and see if that improves the low down power characteristics, then look at other things if there's no improvement. I believe it is a pain to do, so everyone says on here. I think I might just bite the bullet and get a garage to do it.

Update time: I love it when people who ask questions or seek advice put the end result on here. So I'd better do it too.

I actually had two problems: The airflow meter was causing the loss of power. The leaking diesel was down to the fuel delivery connector. As I thought it was maybe the fuel pressure regulator and that's hard to do, I put it into the garage. They correctly guessed what it was beforehand and had it fettled in no time.

A little poorer, wiser and most importantly, have got a smooth running TD5. For the moment of course.
