Hi folks,

Just bought a 2004 freelander td4 automatic on Saturday and overall it has been fine however since buying it I have had issues with lumpy or rough starting in the morning and on a couple of occasions it has cut out completely.

It always starts though but sometimes harder to get going than other times.
Sometimes I have found it to be a little lumpy even when starting while car has only been sitting for a few minutes aswell or if I have driven for a while and engine is idling its intermittent but annoying still as other times its nice and smooth.

I am just hoping that it is nothing serious, I have done a couple of searches on cold starting and stuttering etc and issues on forum usually point to fuel pump, injectors or sensors but would still like some advice if possible.

Thanks.

metallica85 welcome to the landy zone ,

from what you describe i suspect possibly dirty injectors and most probably glow plugs need checking out

get some miller sport diesel additive and go give it a good thrashing (keep the revs high) and see how it goes. glow plugs, battery etc next on the list if no better

as marky said, , injector cleaner on a regular basis, and a good run might improve things, but you will most prob find the glow plugs u/s wich all adds to poor starting
