I haven't tried Redex yet but my disco seems very slow. I have always had V8 Discoverys before so never really knew much about diesels. Its slow pulling away too. If I keep my foot right down on the kickdown it goes ok but I always thought 300tdis were a bit quicker?

Its a bit different with a diesel. Mine was really sluggish when I got it. Removing the EGR valve and the cat and giving it a good service has improved it a lot. It doesnt really do much under 1800 rpm but when the turbo starts spinning it really goes.

loads of threads here. You can get a blanking plate for a couple of quid that just goes under the valve and blanks it off. However, I disliked the fact that this orrible thing was allowing exhaust into my manifold that I took it off altogether and bolted a plate over the hole and then threw the thing away. You have to blank off the vac pipe and then either get a 2" hose to go from the intercooler to the manifold or do what I did which was to saw the branch off that went from the pipe to the EGR valve and weld a patch over it. You will need a 6mm allen key and some WD40.

How many miles has it done? After about 100,000 the EGR has polluted the inlet manifold so much that simply taking it off and cleaning it out will improve performance as it can get a proper air flow in.

Clean out the intercooler with kero, and all the pipes, new air filter, and block off the EGR.

The lift pump could also have gone, ours did and it was a little sluggish and didn't go well once the revs were up, new pump and it was like new...

It has done 125k so it could probably do with a spring clean. Can you use kero neat? I haven't done it for a long time but we used to just use parafin on tractors

Check the actuator pipe from the turbo to the top of the injection pump isn't full of oil. If it is, cleaning the chamber above the diaphragm would likely solve the sluggishness problem. CAUTION - before you take it to bits, make sure you mark the positions of everything so you can put it back the same as it is now or you can damage the engine.

Cheers,

Yes it doesn't seem too bad on the road but pulling away is terrible. Its like its trying to pull away in second - but its not as I put it in 1st and tried it.

flexys gone on exaust just before the cat on me 300tdi disco want to put normal pipe on without cat will it afect me mot

Forget Redex, use Millers Powersport 4 diesel additive at double the recommended dose & keep using it permanently. It provides a useful power increase by both cleaning the injector system & increasing the cetane rating of the diesel.

what's wrong with servicing the fecker rather than continually pouring expensive cetane boosters in the tank ?
