Need advice re SLS. When I press button to raise suspension it gives a chime light on dash flashes but nothing happens. All doors are closed.
Just got vehicle Disco 2 . Any help/advice appreciated

Does the flashing stops after 10-20 seconds and remains continuously iluminated?.........that's important to know
 
If you put a load of heavy stuff in the back and close the doors does the compressor try to re-level?

There are three possibilties: Ride height sensors busted, airbags busted, compressor busted (if you have had previous problems with it sagging and haven't done anything).

The first two are worth replacing regardless if you haven't had them done in the last 5 years. People have endless trouble with SLS (See all the threads on here) but it is a simple and generally predictable system *if* properly maintained.

Strange....... in this case the problem I think needs tester because when u activate ORM the SLS actually is entering in "extended mode" instead of ORM. SLS could get a fake information from the ABS function of the SLABS ECU. But as always(cause I have a tumultuous history with SLS strange behaviour) I might overcomplicate things and the problem can be simply solved just by replacing height sensors.
This one never happened to me and hope u'll get some reply from someone who have had it and could tell u what was the problem.

Meanwhile think abou this:


"ORM is activated by depressing the ORM switch located on the fascia for not less than 0.5 seconds. With the engine running, all doors closed and the vehicle speed below 18 mph (30 km/h), the audible warning will sound once and the ORM warning lamp in the instrument pack will start to flash when the switch is released. The compressor will be started and the air control valves will be energised by the ECU to inflate the air springs and raise the rear of the vehicle.
When the full ORM height is reached, the ECU will terminate compressor operation and close the air valves. The ORM warning lamp will stop flashing and remain continuously illuminated to inform the driver that the SLS system is in ORM."
and
Extended mode operates when the chassis is grounded causing the rear wheels to spin. This information is generated by the ABS function of the SLABS ECU.......
This operates irrespective of the mode that the SLS system is in at that time. To inform the driver, the ORM warning lamp will flash continuously at all times that the system is in extended mode.

It's just a friendly polemic between the SLS paranoid(that's me):D and the SLS Panglossian:)(hope u don't mind)

As far as I know 1 and 2 are failures supposed to be indicated by amber SLS warning lamp.

For nr. 3 I envy you ....it means u've never seen really strange behaviour of SLS generated by SLABS ECU........I frankly wish u better not;)

I had to look it up, but no,I don't mind :)

It just pains me that the vast majority of people here with SLS pitch up saying "I've got a weird unexplainable problem" and 80% of the time it turns out to be the holed bags. If everyone just replaced the wretched bags before trying to be clever, it would save a lot of time ;-)

I totally agree.............I'm just angry on myself that I didn't keep a journal about really weird behaviours which I've experienced myself with the SLS(excluding faulty bags)............most of them remained a mystery and I ended by studying even the electronic scheme of the ECU(I'm:crazy:).......Now I regret cause knowing the deep complexity of the system which usually doesn't fail made me a bit paranoic.............but as u said most of the times it's just a simple thing........at least I'm prepared when the SLS's armaghedon will come:D

No, not at all - that wasn't directed at you!

I'm just making a point that a lot of the SLS problems are related to ride height sensors and air bags. If these aren't remedied in a timely manner, the compressor ends up burnt out (despite the SLABS ECU supposedly limiting its duty cycle to prevent this happening - hah).

Occasionally, as sierrafery says, weird and wonderful problems come out to play, but a lot of the time it's bags/height sensors.

Hi, to David I apologise and please excuse my post but really frustrated as just got disco yesterday !!!
To Sierraferry thank you and yes when I get answer to problem I will come back . Hope to get it into friendly Land Rover chap next week.
 
Well thanks to all who replied,got Disco into local specialist,repaced suspension height sensors and that appears to have done it,for now !
