I think the title says it all!!

My freelanders got about 56000 on the clock, I haven't had it that long and I was just wondering what the gearbox should feel like....

On mine, gear selection is OK.....when you known where to go. I only have the occassional mishap. But the selection doesn't feel positive.

Watching the misses drive it is painful. Its like watching her stir soup. To be fair to her, I really don't think its her fault. I think I've just got used to it.

Regard less of the gear you are in, I'd say you can move the gearstick left to right about 4 inches...........this can't be normal can it? Any thoughts.

And to the Disco owners don't say burn it:doh:

My sport is defo not at all 'loose' in the selection so I'm assuming this isn't right... I'm no expert so I'll wait and see what the knowledgeable fellas have to say. Fingers x'ed mate.

Gear selection on the PG1 box should be easy to find and engage, the amount of slop in the lever when in gear you gave was way more than mine for sure. Sounds like it needs a look at with the linkage.

Have a look at the joint where the linkage and the gear box meet ,there is a roll pin held in with a circlip if the pin wears the gear change becomes loose .
The circlip on mine shifted and the pin fell out:eek: leaving me stuck in third lucky for me I was in spitting distance of home.
I repaired it with a M8 bolt and a nylock nut its a bit of a fiddle getting it in there (not much room ) and you may need to get her up on axle stand or ramp to get underneath.
good luck!

The on my was a typo!

Cheers Edge, that sounds like a plan.........

Do I need to take the sump guard off, or can I access via the rear of it?

Just need to wait for it to stop bloody raining....

Hi again ,
you can access the back of the box witout removing the under tray but you have to take out the two retaining bolts at the back get your hand in pull the tray down and wedge it with a block of wood/screwdriver/small dog
go under the left hand side forward and up just follow the gear linkage its a bit of a squeeze round the cross member but like the song says "nobody said it was easy ":)
