Also egr pipe at exhaust manifold join can whistle.
Cracked exhaust manifold can whistle.
Turbos can start whistling before failure.
Exhaust flexi joint may be splitting.
Intercooler pipe work may also be perished. As mentioned above.
Crank case breather must be done as above
Crank case breather upgraded to a vortex style as above is a must as the old loo roll style clogs up.

Mine does that too noticeable after a quick acceleration and quickly off the throttle at 2k it was there after removing the egr system.
Was a tiny bit more noticeable after loading a remap on it.
They're a vvt vairable vane turbo.
Vanes in the exhaust side of the turbo move to control boost pressure.
I think its normal.
Whatever it is its done it for nearly a year,
also of the same age same mods... Egr removed and remapped.

A 320 to 330d conversion iv just done (m57 like our td6s)
All make the same 'dump' noise approx 30% load to 2k and quick off the throttle.
Follow that vac line up and you'll see the solinoid and vac canister that controls the actuator.
