Weird stuff going on with key and handset to unlock newly acquired Freelander 1.8 (2000):

When I use the key in the driver's door, it alone unlocks (as expected). Then when the key is turned to ignition point II, all the doors unlock (unexpected). Hitting the central locking button on the dashboard locks all the doors except the driver's door (unexpected).

Alternatively, when I hit the unlock button on the handset, all the doors except the driver's door unlock (WHAT'S THE POINT OF THAT!!). Hitting the button a second time does nothing.

Is this some f***ed up reverse version of single point entry as described in the manual? It's not how my previous Freelander worked.

Does yer Freelander already think the drivers door is open? Does the horn sound when locking it wiv the remote, indicating it thinks a door is still open when it int?

No, remote locks all doors including the driver's. Horn doesn't sound indicating an unlocked door.

I've tried resetting the immobiliser with the 5-quick-button press on remote too.

Maybe I need to get the computer reset? There's an issue with the courtesy lights too: The front interior light and map reading lights don't come on with the button pressed, yet the interior light operates as normal when you open the door (so it's not the bulb - although I haven't checked the map reading bulbs). There's a circuit board up there that's to do with the interior motion detector, I think. Could this be related?

The 5 button remote thing links a previoucly working remote to yer Freelander, after either the remote or the car has lost power due to battery disconnection. This won't reset the immobiliser.

The motion detector in the roof is the volumetric sensing for the alarm - if some tratter boy scrote breaks a windows un gets inside. This isn't used to sense for movement to put the internal lamps on.

I think control of the internal lights comes from the same common circuit, with different parts of the car tell it to turn the lights on, from what I see.

Going back, the key turn in the ignition - if you sit inside yer Freelander un remote lock all the doors, then put the key in the ignition un turn it, the drivers door will unlock to allow opening, un the rest will unsuper lock, then need handle inside pulled to unlock, then you can open the doors. Internal locks will not light untill a door is open when doing this. The fact that you say you need to this after using the remnote makes me wonder if this will help us to work out yer problems...

goes away to think in a dark room...

Sounds very like how my Freelander locks worked (or didn't) as the drivers door central locking unit was faulty as it would not unlock with the remote.

I fitted a replacement door latch and now it works as it should :)
