does anyone know where I can get some black n silver plates for my sIII made up? (its old enough to be allowed them). paddocks don't do them anymore so Im looking for a supplier at a reasonable cost.

Depending whereabouts in the UK you are, you could drop into a branch of Polar and have then done while-u-wait. Polar Ford in York (opposite Portakabin/Shepherds) do them.

How old does it have to be to have old style plates fitted??

Sidz up to 1975 I think but no later than.

Found this.

Black Number Plates

Only vehicles constructed* before January 1st 1973 can carry black number plates with either silver, white or grey letters. Vehicles after this date must carry the reflective white at the front and yellow at the back type.

*A vehicle registered in 1973 can have black plates if you can proove it was constructed in 1972.

Unless of course it was registered in Jersey where they are still silver on black, but you're supposed to pay VAT if you bring them over here
