Does anyone know how I can free my pistons on my series 2A 109 2.25 5 bearing engine I have put diesel down the spark plug holes and left it for over 2 weeks and still no movement have finally took the head off 3 pistons seem to be dry I have now put more diesel in the bores and covered them with plastic just in case they dry up will check out in a couple of days, if three are dry does this mean that I need to replace the rings I have noticed a slight step in all the bores is this natural does the piston rise up level with the top if so then it would hit the step can anyone advise me thanks, by the way the land rover has been striped down to the chassis only the engine and wheels are left standing so I won`t be struggling to get around the engine.

what you dont say is how longs the engine been standing. an engine wont seize like that un less its been cooked and also the bearings would have welded to gether or the gear box is still on and thats seized in gear, have you tried turning the crank or as the engine sat for years with no head on.

the land rover has been sat in a dry garage for approx 8 years but i know that it turned over before it was put there i have been trying to buy the landy (with success) I am going through a strip down I could`nt try the engine as some of the electrics had been removed, the gearbox has been removed and i have only just today removed the head i have tried turning the crank but no joy i have even tried turning it from the clutch plate no joy either thanks

thanks martin1512
I was afraid to do that as i thought that i may do more damage but which piston do i hit i have 2 around middle one lower one higher
like it mad hat man lets hope my grandson doesn`t come around when im swinging

I don't think it matters too much which one you hit. As for causing more damage, if the engine is that seized, then you are looking at having to replace the rings and possibly reboring anyway. In which case, you are unlikely to cause damage to anything that doesn't already need replacing.

have decided to replace the engine found another that runs will be striping the old one out and replacing thanks everyone for the help
