All I can say is that anyone who appreciates the foibles and peculiarities of LR/RR would appreciate those same features in Triumphs :)

That probably explains why I ended up buying a Rangey - after owning a Spitfire, Herald, Dolomite Sprint, Triumph 2000, and the TR7. Go for a drop head, they look so much better. Wish I'd got round to dropping a v8 in it (easy conversion). Back in the late 80's I even had a Triumph Amphicar! A Herald in water - scary!!:eek:

True, except for the TR7, an ugly unreliable heap of ****. I would enjoy any TR up to the 6IRS but not the 7, the MR2 is much better built handles better and is reliable.:D

Oh you are so cruel datatek. But right of course. But anything up to a TR6 would cost a heap of cash (plus the Lucas elec ignition was very unreliable). The Triumph straight 6 was a great engine. The slant 4 in the TR7 was, as you say an unreliable heap of ****, and way underpowered; but the car was designed to have the rover v8. As for build quality, well British Leyland at the height of its powers, and on its last legs.

That sadly is why I don't have one. Electronic ignition is not difficult to replace with different kit I believe:D
Putting a V8 in the 7 might have made it go, (they still didn't stop) but it would never have made it pretty.

I found a cure for that issue ...................... the rear end of a vauxhall stopped mine quite well. :5bblush5:
I'd love a TR6 but they're a bit expensive. I just want a runaround for a bit of fun. On top of which the TR7 has loads of head and leg room , which is a rarity in 2 seaters.

Pretty good head and leg room in the MR2 and if you can find a rot free one ultra reliable and probably the best handling/ride of any small sports car:D Have to admit I'm biased:D:D:D

You can just see the Jag wrapped up behind it.

Some months down the line, I was given the order that one of 'em had to go.

Guess which one was sold orf? ... I still shed a tear when I see it's picture on me shed wall.

Believe it or not, the Jag was thirstier than the Classic, but it wasn't faster.

mk2 mr2's are an awsome little car i had this for a while.kinda miss it

I had the Daimler V8 version of the Mk2 Jag, IMO the V8 engine was better than the Jag straight six (even though I don't like V8's), pretty economical as I recall, 25mpg on a run:) Took it to Africa with me, wiped the silencers off on a dirt road so fitted 2 straight lengths of pipe, sounded awesome:D:D:D Never let me down.

I do like the Mk2 MR2 but not as much as I like the TR7. I wish I had never used that Vauxhall instead of brakes ;) She was a lovely little car until I adjusted her looks :(
