while changing the wheeels on my disco1 i noticed that when the rear was jacked one side i could not turn the wheel but when i jacked the front i could spin the wheel should it do this or should the front be locked the same as back either side had same effect front and rear
should this happen

I expect it is because you have the hand brake on. It only acts on the rear prop shaft unless you lock the centre diff (push left on little lever 
)
