......about the high pitched screaming sound that comes from my TD5 transmission at 70mph? Doesn't do it until you get past 65.

Would it be worth trying an oil change in the gearbox and transfer box?

I don't often go above 60mph. Last time l did, about six months and 6,000 miles ago, the noise was not there.
There's no oil leaks so l doubt the oil level has dropped in the transmission.

It's loud enough to make you think "what's that"

I'd change the oil, and have a good look at what comes out - have a look at the drain plug, and pull a strong magnet through the waste oil. A 5th gear bearing may be worn.

Thanks l will change the oil as you suggest.
The noise is present in fourth gear also at motorway speeds.
Not that you'd be in fourth at 65-70mph but l just tried it to see.

The noise is present in fourth gear also at the same speed.
Not that you'd normally do 65-70mph in fourth of course, but l just tried it to see if it still made the noise.

Sorry about the duplicate post!

Anyway, tonight l changed the transfer box oil. About 2 litres came out, it was brown in colour but there was nothing on the magnetic drain plug.
I topped up the rear axle, it took a litre of oil so that was pretty low.
I couldn't get the right oil for the gearbox so will do that over the weekend.
