Should I scrap it?

Hi all, well it's my turn for hgf on my 1.8 k series. I was just doing my weekly checks and saw there was no water in the tank, checked the dipstick and it is all milky. Walked round the back and there was white smoke coming out that I hadn't noticed before. The engine has not overheated at all and the car has hardly been driven since my last check of the engine so it must be a recent failure.

Do you think it is worth having it fixed? The car is in great condition otherwise although I read horror stories on here of people fixing hgf and then having immediate recurrence.

My other options are to scrap it or source another engine although that seems pointless. If I am to scrap it in the end is there anything I can do to get a few more miles out of it as a temporary fix such as radweld or something stupid like that, it is January after all and I would hate to scrap it this week and it snow next week! I only live 5 miles from work and if it could get me there and back a few days during bad weather then at least it has served a purpose before going to LR heaven (that is if freelander k series are allowed in to LR Heaven).

If it is worth mending then does anyone have a recommendation of where to take it to, I live on the Leeds/Bradford border.

I am fully aware that most comments will be 'scrap it' but here's hoping....

Cheers in advance.

Thanks for that, i wasn't aware that there even was a k series turbo engine, however an engine swap is well beyond my muppetry mechanic skills and as my motor is not worth a Penney more than 1k so I don't think it will be worth it.

I think I am looking for either a quick temporary fix or a hg replacement depending on cost.

hi seams to me it may be the head gasket a common fault with this engine if you continue to run it you will definatley knack it altogether ie big ends / crank/mains etc your best bet is to tow/trailer it to a decent mechanic where he will drain the sludgy oil from the engine flush it thro/replace then skim the head refit new gaskets/seals sounds a lot but it isn't really and a damsite cheaper than another car or engine hope this helps mate good luck
