I know a guy with an RRC which has a perkins in..... the word he uses most often is.....

"Pardon?"

Perkins are a great engine - fantastic :), fuel efficient :) , long lasting :), reliable :), blah blah blah.... but NOT in an RRC :D - tractor = YES - RRC = NO;)

+1 for posting some piccies please - sounds an interesting resto does this :)

Mentioned earlier that it was only available in silver or bronze, got that bit wrong...It was the interior that was silver/grey or bronze check! Looking out on eBay for a brochure for that year.

If its a perkins 4182 its not a bad engine, think mazda had some thing to do with it. Now if its the 4236 or 4203 thats a different kettle of fish altogether !
It's a 4236 with Milner conversion kit. Does that mean it's worth nowt!?

Au contraire mon ami, - I have a tractor with a 4-236 in it - its a fine engine - the older tractor enthusiasts will probably buy it off you for reasonable money...:)

Very good engine, better than most available now, as are all those Perkins engines. I have had 4/203s in landies, and a 4/248 in my Massey. All gave excellent service.

As I think I have said before - we're all Massey here, and all "old" simply because of my intolerance of broken sh*t ( AKA electronics !!:mad::mad:). :D

OP - the 236 was fitted in the Massey 300 series tractors - from the 372 up to the 398 ( excepting the 390 which has the A4-248 ) - and in various states of tune too - with differing IP and injectors..... There are MANY 300's still about - I doubt you'll have any trouble selling that engine... :)

I like my 690 for all those reasons! :)

And the engines really are excellent. Change the oil and filters as specced, set the tappets occasionally you are set for life.

Thank you, that's very good to know...you've made my day! :)

The first rangey I bought (1975 classic) in 1988 had the same conversion, 60 mph flat out even with 3.5 tons on the back up a slight incline. Now fair enough its a bloody good engine in a tractor or combine but not a range rover, if we`re talking tractors my favourite is the massy 35x with 3 cylinder engine spent quite a bit of time in my youth sat on seat of one, lovely sound to it.

Aye, the A3-148 were a great little thing - easy to work on - and nearly all of them will still be going too. The successor to it, the A3-152 is still made :)

I have a bit of experience with tractors, seen as i grew up on a farm, but my dad has always had Ford. Still have the Fordson power major that came on the farm new in the early sixties. Not used now but still fires up after a battery charge!

Just for interest, the back of the block on the 4236 is the same as the 6 cylinder version think its called 6354, when mine cracked the block back of a liner chap bought the conversion kit of me to fit that engine in a range rover and I went dia****su engine in mine.
