Hi guys,
One last attempt to get my P38 back on the road. I had the r/h head gasket go. Very noisey, and had a cracked manifold as well. My local garage took off the head and sent it for skimming, but did not check the block. Result , one noisey bugger still. So I need a 4.6 short block as mine is lpg and by switching the block, every thing else goes back on.Any one got one spare?
cheers

Hi bob,

If you are looking for a short block are you talking new or second hand. As 4.6 blocks are prone to liners shifting (porous block) you would be better of sending yours away to have it machined and fitted with top hat liners that way you eliminate one of the most common problems. If you get a secound hand one theres a good chance its no better than the one you currently have and if you get factory new unit then it will have standard linners as land rover refused there was a problem and wouldnt change the design. Remachining works out about £100 a pot. Plus regrind the crank and supplying new rings and shells to suit. works out just shy of a grand. money well spent.

just had mine done and am very pleased with the result
