My car won't get in the garage without hitting the aerial, needing to put it in there most days is turning into a pain.

Anyone use a short aerial on there car? If so any recommendations?

Isn't the arial on a pivot mount so that its angle can be altered? I recently changed my arial cos I've been getting a bad reception. I bought a cheapo arial off eBay for about £8, it's a few inches shorter than the original but with a coil wound base so it actually has more wire. Works better than the original.

No, fixed position unfortunately.

I like the look of the original but definitely need something shorter. Did yours coming with different sized threads?

Yes, it came with two screw-in threads and one of them was the right size, it took less than 5 minutes to replace it. It actually cost £6.50 give or take a few pence. There is an area locally where my radio struggles to get a good Radio 2 signal, the new arial has improved the reception significantly but is still not perfect.

It's not an OE then. The OE aerial has a pivot, so it can be laid flat to the roof if needed, like when off road, or having luggage on the roof.

You can fit a short aerial, as long as you fit the base to go with it. I've got a short one on my SE.

Yes Nodge, that's why I asked the op about the pivot, my arial is pivoting type but no matter how much (non destructive) force I apply, I can't get the bugger to change its angle.

Ok thanks, will order a small one and see how I get on, I don't use the sat nav as have recently swapped the stereo for a Kenwood so its not in use, however will keep the aerial in case it needs to go back on at some point

I just got a cheap 5 star one from Amazon, hopefully will fit under the garage door or will need to get a smaller one again

Update : Got the aerial from Amazon, was a bit of a hassle getting the old one off, the rubber was disintegrating as I was taking it off but still, new aerial fitted, not only clears the garage door but better reception too!

For some reason can't show the link but go to Amazon and search for XtremeAuto Universal Black Aerial Antenna.

It will be the short one
