well not had my disco long
was changing alternator on weekend as the bearings? bushes went in my old one .
anyway took the airbox off
and noticed no bloody airfilter inside it !!!!

ive been on 3 pay and plays in it and had it fully under water up to like half way up the windscreen, hoped the snorkel would protect and i guess it has ish!

split the box noticed a load off silicone , ranom holes in the box and again more silicone that was falling apart ,
whats scared me the most is that the whole inside was a muddy colour like dry muddy water and also at the bottom the mud had dryed and got a scewdriver in there and it all fell out the intake pipe was again same muddy colour !

no airfilter

now i know its had a replacment engine as the last one apprently drowned as he had no snorkel
but im still shocked how the hell it hasnt bent a rod or a stone has gone into the snorkel and killed the turbo ill never know

sorry i didnt get pics ive just cleaned it all and put tights over snorkel for now lmao
bought a service kit and some tiger seal
hopefull do a better job off making it waterproof than he did

I would have made sure of a better job before wading.

ive got a safari snorkel on mine what it looks like hes done is just cut a whole in the existing box used crap silicone and self tappers on it ,
its the holes on the bottom side off it aswell about 3mm i think just got lose silicone kinda blocking them but no airfilter at all anything could off got in

Your amazed that it didn't have an air filter? I'm amazed you "had it fully under water up to like half way up the windscreen" without prepping it properly for wading and now uv come on here to winge about it

Well i did prep its as such and give it tje once over checked all breather pipes and even rerouted the rear axle one , checked bolts in engine and gearbox thing , and visually looking at the airbox i could see the silicone around the edge/ seal and also wherr the snorkel went into it so had no reason to take it off as why would i take it off to check for an airfilter its somet you expect to be in there , i also change the fuel filter , engine oil and filter , transfer box oil and diff oils as well as i checked the gearbox oil level .
So im pritty sure i did do a bit off prepping . Just didnt expect there not to be an airfilter as ive never bought a car without one so why would i perposly check ......

just don't follow paul d

Heheheh, My engine was running, snorkel had an air filter, right up to when the central locking engaged and all the electrics died .. there's no silt or ****e in the engine, just plain water!

Know what you mean though ... Codn't have said it better .. ;)
