It isn't impossible to sell a vehicle on British plates. It just needs to be advertised as being so. Some people buy them just to add to a collection or to run them around on private ground, others are prepared to go through the problems with getting them registered.
My neighbour in France is currently going through this process with a Brit 110 V8.
You could try advertising it in other countries, maybe even in the UK. I don't know about Portugal but in France there is a system called "voitures de collection" which allows owners to drive their cars around in special registration.
The Portuguese land rover club ought to know about this.
They are so rare you may well succeed with this seemingly impossible task.
I have found sold ads for these for between €8k and €15k

I am certainly aware he was pulling his hair out over it sometimes, but had done alot of the work. But he wasnt having an easy job of it with the 3rd party or gov chucking rules in as well as holidays. Many posts on here about his progress or frustration.

I think you would be surprised at the interest in them if advertised in the right place. Even to the point of somebody buying and trailering back to the UK.

I believe from his many posts on here it is actually drivable?

I do wish you luck, it is also a shame he had a falling out with his mate Barry, I hope they made amends before the end.

I have just emailed my French neighbour about all this as he imports them and knows the ropes a bit. He may even know someone who may be interested as he knows a serious number of people in France who are Land Rover nuts.
At the moment I cannot find even one on sale in France although a couple that have just been sold.
They ARE popular and of course many of the sort of people who can afford them often are not particularly bothered about transport costs.

I have been to Portugal. From what I saw, there is a thriving Land Rover scene over there.
The Portuguese like the British, and most things associated with Britain.
We saw as many Land Rovers in Portugal as UMMs, the homegrown article.
So I reckon it would be as easy to sell in Portugal as here, like they say ^^^^^^^^.

Wow…this is very encouraging. Land Rovers aren’t really my thing but I have been reading through Rob ‘s posts just to get an idea of what we are dealing with.
I believe it held a Portuguese mot at some point and was road worthy but with his health declining it was parked up.

We actually saw a LR meet up near the port in Lisbon. Wish you the best of luck, keep at it as it will be worthwhile.

Not certain, but a guess, a Portuguese buyer might find the formalities associated with getting the vehicle onto Portuguese plates a bit easier than Rob did.
That seems to be the way it works in most places.

At car shows I have come across kit cars in France that should never have been on the road according to their import rules. Invariably it came down to which fonctionary working for the "les Mines" as it used to be called ( now the DREAL) could be gently persuaded to allow his palm to be crossed with a few francs!
My next door neigbour is paying a specialist to formalise the paperwork to import his 110 V8. Still possible but a heck of a lot harder than before Brexit and it wasn't easy then.
Maybe the "3rd party" mentioned above was the equivalent specialist Rob found.

It is pretty much the same in Cornwall.
Incomers aren't shunned, or deliberately given second rate service.
But if you have a Cornish surname, and can speak a bit in dialect, you will often find yourself nearer the front of the queue for all kinds of things than someone who doesn't enjoy those things.

Obviously, that doesn't apply to things like vehicle registration, because they are national, and dealt with by someone from afar.
But with local goods and services, it is definitely a factor.
 
@FraserGuy I have contacted my French neighbour and he could well be interested in the 101. If he decides not to purchase it he says he knows others who might be interested.
This is exactly what he said to me in a mail I just received.
"Pour FC101, j’aimerai en savoir plus. Je pourrais être intéressé, ça a toujours était un rêve…inaccessible. Peux tu en avoir plus d’information. Si j’arrive la le financer , pas de problème pour aller le chercher au Portugal.

Si trop cher pour moi, je connais un ami qui en a déjà 2 qui pourrait être intéressé. Il est sur l’ile de St Barth mais achète des land rover partout dans le monde."

I will have to tell him that you do not have the V5 for it but having looked into it, that may not be surprising. The keeper who exports a vehicle is supposed to send off section 11 from the V5C and then hang on to sections 1 to 8! I expect he sent it off, this can be checked by going on the DVLA gov.uk site where you can check the status of any vehicle. If the DVLA have received the section 11 for a vehicle it will have the words "Export marker yes" and Rob should have filled in the section 6.

I'll get back onto my mate to ell him it isn't registered in Portugal as this is only fair. Strangely he has some sort of Portuguese status as he owns a house in the Azores.
I'd forgotten that until a moment ago.

I have applied for the v5 in my sisters name with uk address but not heard anything of yet - It’s only been couple weeks. The previous owner lived in Algarve and is now deceased.
I will gather as much information as I can on 101. My sister has come across some further documentation which could be helpful .
I’m in uk btw.
