Seem to be havin' no end of probs with my Auto 2002 TD5 Disco ES. Recently I had the MAF changed due to it being sluggish, then I've changed the loom (under the rocker cover) as I had oil on the plugs going into the ECU as well as experiencing problems with auto gear change going up hills. Took it to our local Landy dealer who ran it through a diagnostics machine and both gearbox and engine showed no problems, hence he advised me to check the plugs for signs of oil. Hopefully that's cured that problem, now there's another, intermittant starting...
For a while now the battery light been coming on when the engine is in idle, goes off again when the throttle is pressed. What's been happening the last week or so is that sometimes it starts up immediately without a hoot of a problem and other times nothing happens at all. Turn the key and absolutely nothing, no noises, no lights, no signs of turning over, nothing. Yesterday though when this happened it started again "magically" again after an hour and I drove for around ten minutes by the time I got home, loads of lights started flashing on the dash (can't remember them all) but the S + M (sport and manual from the gearbox came on, a "T" and a couple of others as well". What I did find odd is where (by the speedo) the display to show what gear mode your in also started flashing. Odd very odd.
So what can this fault be, here's the deal. The battery is just under two years old and the condition light shows bright emerald green. Of course the other obvious thing is to check the alternator which I'm intending to do do over the weekend, and does anyone know the best way (cheapest?) to get hold of a recon alternator? But what else should I look at? Could the ECU have beed affected by the leaky oil and have seeped in? any other thoughts of what else I should test?
Cheers
