Yep, in same position myself right now although holding off on the new chassis bit till later as expecting other things to go wrong. lol

they do carry a ton of sh1t don't they.
Was amazed when I got a whole bathroom suite in my disco 1 and the Disco 2 carries even more. SOOOOOOO practical, AND I don't have the third row of seats!

Strange how the D1 body's fell off & the chassis were good & the D2 the ar$e falls off the chassis.

Ive got a nice 300tdi chassis if you want it just move a few mounts & make a couple of spacers for the rear body mounts
job jobbed lol

Ah thanks Kev..

I think a new galv chassis for a D2 would be less of a ballache ;)

The D2's body and chassis rot out, odd really ;)

Threw some Kurust on it ;)

she needs a new chassis soon ;)
You sure it needs welding.
Have you not just removed the surface paint and a layer of rust.
Get the tank off and clean all up, paint and seal then blow a load of waxoyl down the internals.
You could paint sealant over the rest of the externals and get plenty more years from it.

I'm pretty sure there is some Holeage near the body mount!
unless that is supposed to be there! o_O

if so i'll just paint it LOL :D

I took the towbar and fuel tank off mine and got a mobile auto welder to come to it. After a lot of hammering and wire brushing he welded up what needed doing and charged £60. A really professional job as well.

Seems like you was lucky! :):):)
Have heard of mobile welders wanting a fortune though it's a lond time since I used one.
Mine is going to the garage for the welding, when I took the towbar off I couldn't believe how bad it had got so if he does a good job for the quoted £200 plus Vat I'll be chuffed as, looking at it, I'd a said that it wasn't worth it and a new rear chassis was the only way to go.
AND he'll be taking the tank out, crossfingers, hope he don't do the pipes any harm!
Will keep a track of this!:):):)

A local garage gave me a quote of five hundred to weld mine, but I don't think they fancied the job. They are mechanics not welders. The mobile welder does nothing but welding. He doesn't remove fuel tanks etc. But he is good at what he does - welding. I am not saying mechanics can't weld but it isn't their speciality. He does a lot of welding work at the local garages.

The tedious part about taking the tank out is removing the plastic side panels in the boot to remove carpet to get to the fuel pump connectors. Some just slice the carpet.

My God, thank the stars I read this. Now I'll take all this stuff out before giving him the vehicle. No excuses then!
Cheers mate!:):):):):)
