Aftermarket tyre pressure monitors. A bit of a warning.

A couple of years back I fitted aftermarket tyre pressure monitors to my Disco. There are basically two types; the ones that fit inside the tyre and replace the existing tyre valves and the screw-on type which just replace the normal valve caps.
I chose the valve cap type, largely because I could then change them over between my summer and winter wheels, easy .... or so I thought.
For the first six months or so while they were on the normal tyres they presented no problems, so when the time came, I changed them over onto my winter wheels.
The pressure indications remained quite constant as was expected so there was no need to remove then. However, when I came to remove them to fit on the summer tyres they were stuck fast, totally siezed onto the valves.
I had to cut the damned things off and have the valves replaced in the wheels.
The reason for them sticking was found to be "dissimilar metal corrosion"; the valves are brass and the threaded part of the pressure monitors was steel. The salt and general wetness of winter driving had caused them to virtually weld themselves in place.
I like my TPMS and the replacement set which I bought fortunately have brass threaded parts and a slight smear of silicone grease on the outside of the valves should keep things a bit easier in future.
