Hi
I'm a newbie Land rover Discovery TD5 owner and need some advise please.
I'm trying to set the Hill descent control but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, I put it in low ratio and press the HDC switch a green light comes on the dash and flashes on and off and an audible ding sounds but the light continues to flash and the ding continues to sound, (ding, ding, ding etc) the book says that this means it's not set right, what am I doing wrong, can anyone help please.

Hi, it's possible that the hi/low switch on the transfer box doesnt work(quite common) then the ECU still considers it in high regardless of the mechanical selection so the conditions for HDC are not met...you need to plug in a tester and see if the SLABS ECU gets the "low selected" input or not..... If you want more help make a signature with the year and transmission type of your D2 to be always visible

Mmm
I did wonder if it was a sensor fault, I have followed the book, I will gat it plugged in.
Thanks

If you are getting it plugged in then mae sure you go to someone with the correct kit.

A normal "OBDII" code reader will not necessarily give you good results.

Look for someone local to you who has a Nanocom / Hawkeye / Lynx unlocked for the D2, as these were designed for the D2.

How long you had it? make sure you have the EKA code.

Cheers

Emergency key access code it is described in your owners manual, look in your paperwork for it . It is a 4 number ( or could be a hexadecimal code) sequence.

If you cannot find it come back and let us know as there are a few ways of getting it, but do make an effort to get it ASAP.

Cheers

Hi
I have found a key no but the Emergency key access code has not been filled in, I'm assuming they are one and the same.

The key number and the Emergency Key Access code are two different things.
The key number will allow you to purchase a replacement key (at vastly inflated prices) from LR. They're not called the "Main Stealer" for nothing you know!
The EKA will allow you to gain access to the vehicle should the fob or the radio side of the central locking fail to work.
There are three ways of getting hold of it, I believe:
  1. The Land Rover main dealer, not your local LR specialist garage, will give it to you on production of proof of ownership; the V5 usually. This is only good if nobody has changed it in the past.
  2. You could ask somebody with a Nanocom code reader to read it for you direct from the vehicle.
  3. There is a website @neilly knows, where you can give them some money and they'll send the EKA to you. Like the LR method, that's only any good if it hasn't been changed.

@neilmr

Following you first post, I went and tried mine this morning. TBH I have never used HDC , but I have checked the button worked as it should.

Well, Imagine my delighted surprise......NOT, when I had the same failure mode as yourself.

Select HDC in Low range. and green flashiing light "beep, beep, beep" and not the only beeping that was happening.....

Connected the nanocom, which I know used to show it switch between high and low when the transfer box lever was moved. Car is a manual and does change btw Hi and Lo mechanically. iirc, the nanocom originally used to show Lo when in Hi which was a known fault and vice versa as it was a nanocom software glitch, but it did used to change on the nanocom btw the two states. Now though it shows High all the time.

I am off to investigate the switch and see if it has failed. If it is the switch then it looks like it may be IGM500011.

Cheers

it happens cod nanocom shows the signal strenght on the shown selection not the switch's position so the signal is high for low selected cos then the switch gives clear earth... not a problem as long as everybody knows it's thos way cos at least we can see if the switch works or not
