hey fellas, so I think Ive got all the bits I need to service my SIII, but just to make sure, any chance you can run through with me what you guy's do when you give your series landy's a service, thanks for your time gents :)

Depends on the mileage, condition of the vehcile and the fatness of your wallet.
Usual things are engine oil, points, plugs, oil filter, clean out and re-oil air filter, set tappet gaps, lubricate door hinges and locks, check antifreeze, replace brake fluid if its manky, same with clutch.
Might also be worth checking the gearbox oil level, front and rear axle oil level, condition of diesel filter if it has one, battery water level, all bulbs, steering swivel oil seals, suspension bushes back & front, prop shaft hardy's check and grease, steering box backlash adjust, track rod ends, adjust brakes, check chassis for rot, security of exhaust, inlet manifold and carb bolts if there is one, etc.
You can go on and on.

thanks for that mate, at least Ive got something to go by now, good news Ive got all the bits I need going by what you've said, so can I replace the oil in the air filter with engine oil? and Ive been told 15-40w oil for a 2.25 petrol does that sound right, thanks again for your time...

I use 20/50 in the engine (and filter) 'cos it gets burned quickly and I can get it cheap. I think it's what's specified.

I've used engine oil in the air filter, I'm sure there is something better and someone will be along soon to tell us.
The engine oil is somewhat down to opinion as well, so long as its mineral instead of synthetic or semi synthetic.
