Service Due

Hi everyone I am getting a service due warning on the the dash screen I have a 3.0 TDV6 RR Sport Red Edition and it has covered 73,000 miles. I am wondering what the service at this mileage would consist of. I cover less than 4,000 miles a year so if this is a major service interval would it be worth having a major service done?

If it's due a major service then it makes sense to have it done including the gearbox fluid if that has not previously been done. Details should be in the owners documentation.

Plus if I may add, what year is it please , ref need to check regarding timing belts etc

Think it’s every 7 x years or 115,000 miles ??

Yes sorry should have added that to ensure it’s the upgraded one

Sorry should have mentioned the year its a 2012 it came with a full main agent service history I will have to have a good look at it you mentioned oil pump cover mod would this have possibly been done by the main agent?

Many thks, wouldn’t have thought so because it’s I believe every 7 x years or 115,000 miles, which ever comes first, urs it only at 73,000 miles

It’s at 112,000 miles or every 7 x years inc front and rear belts, aux belt , ( oil pump cover to be checked it has the stronger casing , always best to change it anyway )

Since 2007 there’s been issues with oil pump covers

Didnt we all rip the proverbial out of someone with an almost new veh, not long ago, for not understanding the 'whichever comes first' bit? I seem to recall he was trying to argue about a fault which had happened , outwith the time period , but within the mileage. His argument was also the ' I haven't done X miles'. Despite the wording being 'time OR mileage, whichever comes first.'

@Sutto , as you have the service book, you will be able to see which service is due. If it is a major service, the amount of mpy you do is irrelevant. You have done the required mileage where the service is needed. Just do it and revel in the knowledge it will take a while before you have to do it again.

Hiya Not sure, just remember the miles OR time bit. I just think with how tempermental these beasts are, including the little sister , the Sport, if they ask for something, give them it. It's only prudent, because usually they throw a strop without being kind enough to give a warning.

Indeed , same thought process

Ur so right, considering these are extremely expensive engines to replace by not just covering the essential maintenance

Think that’s what also new buyers forget when they’ve just gone out and bought one , then realising of the upkeep costs

Also the later 3.0 TDV6 rear fuel belt is timed so more involved where as the 2.7 TDV6 fuel belt isn’t and can be changed in around 45 x mins with someone who know what there doing

I would check to see just what is on the service list.

I had my Cayenne booked in for a major service and asked what it includes. gearbox oil, plugs etc not included.. some more digging and the official major service items included stuff like 'check door locking function', seat movement, seat belt function, coolant level. tyre pressures and wear, windscreen wiper blades and fluid level etc ect.

basically stuff I check every time I drive the sodding thing. m not going to pay some joker £300 to check what I do regularly and have them not do the important stuff

there will be an issued list of service items to check.. read it before you book, or tell the garage exactly what you want serviced. caveat emptor.

Here’s a service sheet for a D4 , same engine

Plus ignore the recommendations ref mileage for the autobox oil to be changed

Should be done around 75,000 miles , so best to get it done with the service

If you want to be sure it is done, do it yourself and save a shed load of cash in the process. That's why I am here!

I once knew someone who was responsible for auditing British Leyand dealerships on behalf of BL. He told me that BL recommended oil changes every x thousand miles for engines and gearboxes because they knew the dealers didn't always carry out the recommended work. So BL recommended half the mileage that was necessary. The stories he told about dealerships stopped me from ever using one.
