Spent a good few hours trying to get one damn bolt undone.

Trying to get the F/O/S spring off on dads S3 88 as we've ordered a full new set of shocks. and adjust the springs to the correct height as they are currently about 5" between the top of shackle and the bottom of bump stops meaning the shocks are streched out to there full extent and now ceased up in that position. Managed to snap 2 extension bars, 4 sockets and a spanner so far trying to get the rear lower bolt undone

got a couple of questions regarding this little ****er.

1) is the back side of the spring hanger threaded as landy bible for S3 says threaded and another says to press them out.

2) the hex of the bolt is now completely rounded doe's anyone know of a tool other than footprints or stilsons that might get this out without having to grind it off or ruin the bush.

3) is the front spring hanger threaded as got two books saying yes and another that says press/knock it out

4) anyone local got anything that may help getting these 2 bolts out

I've out pics up showing the bolts/ hangers in question for reference.

Thanks in advance for the help guys :)

I think the front spring hanger is threaded on the inside - I'm fairly sure they were on my old chassis but aren't on my replacement one. It should be fairly obvious once the nut is removed.
Both shackle plates are threaded on the inside. Slide a hacksaw blade between the shackle plate and the spring and saw through on either side (this will destroy the bush). The bolt is either stuck in the shackle plate or the bush - you might as well replace the lot 'cos the bushes perish and the shackle plates wear. They're not expensive.....

Thanks for that oxides :)

Going to leave this until next week and just order a complete set of new shackles and bolts for the whole motor and then get the grinder, hammer, C4 out and replace the lot

when the outer locking bolts practically fell off I thought this was going to be a nice easy ten minute job.... how wrong I was
