the engine was smokey so but ran alright, had sat still for about 8 years, so had the head off and some valves replaced and skimmed also fitted a new set of rockers and had the injectors reconditioned..
put it all back together and and it ran ok for a short while and then started a horible knocking sound .. so i stopped it and tried to re start and no joy. eventually got it to run but rough. whipped the head off to check for holes in pistons but no signs of collision. stuck it back together and checked the static timing and it seemed ok.. but still the same problem

help any ideas or is it the bottom end gone as well :(

i would go for a faultiy injector, try undoing the pipes one at a time when running an see if the knok goes, if an injector is "driblling" it will sound like a big end

ditto nongrokal had it on mine , turned over engine with injectors out, good ones fine mist dodgy one a solid squirt, no need to swap whole set just follow above plan it will run on three cylinders and be quiet (ish ) when the dodgy one has its pipe loosened

thanks guys when i get a chance to get into the garage again i'll have a look and try,, just cut up an old series chassis for scrp so will hopefully have some room to play!!

managed to play alittle but cant seem to get the bastard started now....
was not cranking that well so changed the starter motor as i had a spare, seemed to improve and it coughed a couple of times and then severe blat flatery syndrome kicked in so now have to wait again...

 its still not playing have a 2.5 n/a lined up just need to collect it so will keep on trying for the mo..

:D:D got the bastard started and it still knocking so revved the nads off of it and the noise stopped..... still smokey:mad: but may clear after a good warm through..
i think it had a small air leak on the bottom of the distro pump at the feed back to the lift pump, had a spare pipe and one way valve so swapped it over.
here's hoping fingers crossed and all that..

still playing, still having problems starting it, think its a fuel problem though.... sorted one way valve on bottom of dist pump... also changed the washers on lift pump banjo, filter banjo and the dist pump feed banjo.... now its looking like one of the injectors is leeking from the copper seal on the main body:doh::doh:.
aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!:(

finally got round to playing again... replaced the washers on the non return valve on the base of the distro pump and also swapped the dodgy injector over.. bled it through and tried it and she started and ran, a little rough and smokey but hoping that alittle adjustment on the timing may help that..:D:D
