Hello, I’m new to this site.
As a kid I loved landrovers and my dad bought one 30 years ago.
Unfortunately he had just passed away and I am now going to get his series III back on the road. Been on drive stationary for 17 years.
My wish is to completely refurbish it and use it for camping trips around Scotland in his memory.
It’s at 2.25 petrol and 26k miles 1973 swb.
Needs new chassis and any advice or suggestions welcome.
Some considerations are
Keep it same colour or change?
Remove hardtop to make soft top
Power steering
Thanks

Welcome to the Landyzone. Worth keeping it original, as you can put your own stamp on it and remember your dad fondly. Have a chat with the Series section for best advice on approaching repairs and spares. Local clubs are worth a shout for help and a cup of tea. Remember your dad was a custodian and pass the batton to you and family.

Sorry for your loss. Lovely that you have something to remember him by.
Restoration is a massive process, full of triumph, pain, cuts and dust.
Have a look at Steve’s thread in the projects section - he’s been restoring one last few years.
If you love tinkering and mech work then it’s an awesome journey. It is not easy or cheap though!

Have you somewhere out the weather to do it?

Chassis can be had from likes of Richard’s.
Sounds like engine is barely run in?!
Don’t worry about cosmetics for now is my advice - get it solid and functional before you tart it up. Personally, unless it was really damaged, I’d keep the exterior just as he left it.

Spares - LR direct, island4x4, maltings, paddock, john craddock etc etc
