Well, here we are, at another series rebuild thread. A little back story for the old girl i suppose is needed here.
Well, GUR as she is known (the reg starts with GUR!), is a 1969 Series IIA 88' Petrol in Blue. The first bit of history i know of her is from up in winkleigh, where she was a rusty wreck, and this was back in 2001. Since then, she has sat in various places around my friend's farm, and then at the new yard. It was decided that nothing was really happening with her, so i offered some money, and i got myself a logbook linking to a rusty wreck!
We did have a 2.0TD Perkins Prima engine out of a Montego, great little engine and it was going to be excellent in my new (old) girl! But, 8 years of sitting outside, albeit under cover, has done it no good what so ever! When we came to stripping it down, the job was getting more and more expensive. A new water pump would cost nearly £100. So the engine was plonked on the trusty fleabay. and sold to a chap who had already done the conversion, but had a cracked bolck, so it was perfect for him.
So now, we dont have a decent engine for her, but im planning on fitting a 300tdi and mating it to the original transmission. I want to keep the original tranny because of the tax exempt points system. I will be changing the axles(probably) the steering, and the engine so that leaves me with suspension and treansmission. She will be sat on parabolics, but trhey are still leafers, so are classed as original suspension, somehow!
Well, that is more than enough to bore you, im sure! I will be posting a few pictures of the progress so far, when i get around to it! Wish me luck, and here goes nothing!
