Series II/III door interchangeability

I'm trying to sort my doors out on my SIIa SWB and am struggling with the gaps at the front of the doors and the seal. Basically the leading edge of the door pinches the seals on the shoulder. I have about 10mm gap at the front (passenger side only at the moment) and the door hangs reasonably square in the gap (leading and trailing edges parallel to bulkhead and tub and bottom with sill bracket).

How do I know if I have SII or SIII doors? Are they the same? Are they interchangeable? Does it matter?

The seals I have now fitted are Bearmach as the Britpart ones were far too stiff and stopped the door closing without a hefty slam.

As far as I know, the doors are the same but the hinges are different (I think). The S3 hinges are fairly flat whereas the S2 stick out. Have a look at both types for sale on eBay to see what the difference is. What type of hinge do you have? As for the seals, a hefty slam is a good thing I think.

They can be a right pain and take a lot of fettling to get right if indeed they ever get right. With everything being out of square and rather bespoke on leaving the factory things only get harder to line up over the years. Some, no most replacement door tops aint even the same profile as the original so it can become almost impossible to get a good seal depending how much has been changed over its lifetime.
I found taking the door top off and fitting the door without it helped. The top is then fitted leaning in slightly so it flexes against the seals when closed. I also found the modern one piece tube type seals much better than the old flap and hope ones.

Sliding window latch is different too.

If its any consolation when ever I have re-hung a car door I have spent at least an hour getting it back to being as bad as it was when I started.

On the plus side it does maintain originality.
