Series 3

Hi all,
I have a 1977 Series 3 which i purchased a few years ago, it was a true farmers wagon full of shot gun shells and held together with tape and twine etc. Over the last few years i have been going through most components and rebuilding them.

As you can imagine the chassis was shot, after blasting i replaced both out riggers, front dumb irons, patched the transmission cross member and completely replaced the rear half chassis.
The same applied to the bulk head, both foot wells and door pillars needed replacing.
Axles and swivels etc were fully rebuilt with all new bearings seals and gaskets.

As this project has been dragged out over the last few years, i have had several phones and lost the majority of the photos, so we will now jump to a few years progress to where i am now.

You sure that's a six cylinder?
I thought they were four cylinder engines

Im sure, count the inlet ports on the second photo, that and the fact it has 6 injectors and glow plugs.

i have made a little progress since my last post, it now goes, stops and steers. see below video as evidence.
the mis match of engine, gearbox, clutch and flywheel worked out ok in the end.
got a 300tdi rad and cooler installed, aswell as the clutch and brakes bled. The tub is also fitted.

Sorry, always thought they were a four cylinder.

The smaller engines 2.0 and below are 4 cylinders, although they also made a 6 cylinder 2.0.

Bit of progress since May, in fact it's pretty much finished. last few jobs to do then perhaps mot next week.

Would love ago at an SD3.3t in a 90

I'm having difficulty uploading any photos but I will persevere .
Land rover made its maiden voyage to the MOT centre and back Monday with a pass.

Done over a hundred miles since the MOT with no serious problems. still only running low psi on the turbo until my bleed valve arrives.

Turns out my range rover diffs were just newer standard series diffs so she screams at 50mph, which in all honesty I would not want to be going much faster anyway!

What does everyone think?

Seems to go well and it sounds ace!

Wouldn't mind a bit more tech an pictures on the mating up of engine and gearbox etc.

Seems like a nice conversion for a series and nice to see someone doing something other than fitting a 200 or 300 Tdi lump in them.
