Hi, I have just bought my first series 3 (not running just yet) after owning an 90 for 30 years. I am familiar with the series 3 red and yellow levers. My new project has another lever for a splitter box which I have encountered in old trucks and found useful. Has anyone experience of how it actually works on the 3 i.e. push, pull, down ,up? and was it standard factory extra or after market?
Regards

Welcome to LZ. :)

Probably an overdrive. Just push the lever back and forward to engage.

Hi Thanks both for the welcome and reply, my first thought was an overdrive but the previous owners family insist it was a splitter??. I suppose when running it will become apparent. My previous experience of overdrives were a short dash lever this one is almost the size of the gear lever?

Splitter is a term usually used by truckers. They like CBs and murdering prostitutes as well, so I would ignore them! :)

Overdrives are sometimes electrically activated by a switch on the dashboard. The ones on Series are usually mechanical.
Don't forget to put the clutch down before engaging and disengaging.
